In my years of experience as an executive coach, I have heard many times about clients who have gone to dozens of leadership trainings and workshops with other leaders only to leave the workshop filling out an evaluation of how poor or great the presenters were. Can you imagine how many hours and dollars were spent by individuals and companies to tell the presenters how good they were and leaving the executive, the client, the audience member completely clueless about how they are doing as a leader, or what they have learned from the training. I believe the days of sitting politely in an auditorium as a passive leader to learn how to be a more effective leader are limited. I believe we are too sophisticated to not realize that the importance of emotional intelligence plays a vital role in being a leader. As high as we can raise our emotional intelligence, we should. Insight and self-awareness is most efficiently increased by feedback from others, including a coach. Days of passively sitting by and not willing to stretch ourselves and get a little dirty are hopefully behind you. Hopefully, you, our fearless leader want to be stretched and are willing to risk humility and humanity to take yourself and those around you to the next level.
